This is the toast I gave at my sister's wedding. I was nervous as hell and I made it through everything but the last few lines without getting choked up.
"Briefly, I am so excited for you two. By all measures you've got a great life to share together. I love watching it morph and grow and I want to deliver four bits of insight I hope you might find useful. So!
First, you can only ever rush to the end of your life. So take your time. Eat chocolate. Pet the dog. Make babies.
Second, for existence and for who you are, both together and as individuals, you owe the world your lives. There really are some debts you'll never pay. Be thankful. Eat more chocolate. Belly rub the dog! Change diapers.
Third, relish in your senses. There exist so many more than the oft mentioned five. Remember you sense of balance and your sense of decency. Be glad. Eat fruit! Smell the new puppy breath. Play Acquire.
Finally, breathe with your stomach. It will drag the oxygen to the bottom of your lungs where they are most receptive. A deep breath will clear your head. There'll be days when you'll need your own space. Days when the chocolate goes straight to your hips. When the dog hair is thick enough to drown in, the baby won't stop crying, and you'll have lost in Acquire.
Just put your hand on your stomach, like you might on any Good Book, take a deep, deep breath and then give me a call. We'll yell it out.
Chelsea, your the first girl I ever fell in love with. Kyle, she's all yours, but she'll always be a little bit mine too. I love you both."
